Sigur Rós - Making beautiful, haunting, epic music
I remember reading an article on Sigur Rós and a review for the album Ágætis byrjun in 1999. The piece about the band and the review of the album got me really interested and thought, "yeah they're worth a look!"
The next day I went to a well known high street music shop (this being before I had regular access to the internet) and listened to the entire album. To say my mind was blown would have been an understatement, it was simply the most extraordinary thing I'd ever heard. Needless to say my money was out and I'd purchased this little treasure faster then you can say Ágætis byrjun. From that day forth I've been an official Sigur Rós fan, buying all their albums and got to see them live at Glastonbury.
In 2009 I met my future wife who also happened to love Sigur Rós and especially their third album Takk. Hoppípolla, the second single from the album went on to become our first dance song.
So that's why I chose an image of a bunch of Icelandic musicians for my 19things task. I used the advanced search in google images and it was quite interesting to see the difference between the ones that are free to share and those that aren't. The image above is a wiki commons image.
